What Makes Millennials Not Get The Success They Desire?

Just a few days back I overheard two young team members talk about how even after putting in a lot of effort they were not able to succeed in the project assigned to them, the reason was some other team member who delayed certain deliverables. One of them was in fact depressed that her manager did not take her out for coffee during break hours.

When I checked records of these two team members I noticed that they were only three months into the system and had been assigned responsibilities accordingly and had little or no view of the overall progress of the project.


What makes these young people feel unsuccessful at work?

I do not concede with the popular belief that the millennials are self-absorbed or any bit less hardworking. I however firmly believe that their ambitions and dreams are not based on realities. Also the fact that they have been taught time and again that happiness or success is achieved through external factors rather than internal.

We have set goals for this generation throughout. We have however failed to help them understand that that happiness or success is not just in achieving the goals set. But also in the journey taken and their own success is not always to be compared with someone else’s success.

The generation that values showcasing whatever they have on Facebook and Snapchat, they have grown used to constantly comparing images instead of comparing personalities and they let these images define life for them.

This makes them either overconfident or extremely unhappy, the latter more than the former. They keep moving even when they are somewhere great.

What can bring in the feeling of fulfillment or success or happiness, is to have a more inward approach and have a vision. Goals that are written without a vision, have no or very little meaning. Write a vision statement for yourself in your current role and make goals accordingly.

Vision and Goals, follow the mantra at each stage of life and you bound to feel happy.

Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don’t complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief, and jealousy. Don’t bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!

Brief about the competition

HR SUCCESS TALK is inviting people to participate in blog or article writing competition on any topic related to HR. It is an online competition. Participants need not come to any place to participate in the competition.

There are two categories:

  1. People Choice
  2. Jury Choice

Each category will have three winners (First, Second and Third). There will be few consolation prizes too.

The decision of the HR SUCCESS TALK advisor group will be final in regard to winners.

For People Choice Awards

  • HR SUCCESS TALK will publish your blog on its website and Facebook Page with your name and social media credentials. We will also tag you on your blog, therefore, you are requested to like our FB Page to enable us to do so.
  • Winner will be decided on the basis of maximum points earned by like, share and comment.
  • For each like-1 point, for each comment-2 points, and for each share-3 points will be awarded in a blog published on our FB page.
  • In case of comment
    • Self-comment by participant will not be counted
    • Irrelevant comment by others will not be counted i.e. comments by others just to increase the number of comments.

For Jury Choice Awards

  • Judges will read and review every blog/ article and evaluate it on quality of content, clarity of thoughts, blog writing (includes grammar) and selection of topic.
  • We will share the names of Judges through our FB Page. They will be seasoned HR professionals.

Does one need to be an HR professional to participate?

No. anyone (even students) can participate but the topic should be from HR.

What are the topics on which one can write the blog?

The participant can choose any topic related to HR but the word limit should be 500 words.

How to share the blog/article?

You can submit the blog through a form. Click here to access the form

How much time we have to submit the blog/ article?

Competition will start from December 15th to January 31st, 2018

Can one participant submit more than one blog/ article?

Yes

How will the winners be announced?

Winners for each category will be announced through our FB page maximum by February 16th, 2017

What will winners get?

Winners will get:

  • Trophy
  • Certificate
  • Lifetime complimentary passes to attend HR String Meets anywhere in the world

How will winners get their prices?

We will invite the winners in our HR String Meets and award in the same event. In case due to some reason, Awardee is not able to come, we can send the post too.
